Week 2

We visited with a camping buddy for a couple of days last week.  Mark and Sonny played soggy golf at Desert Canyon in Orondo on Tuesday while I raked part of the closed section sites.  I earned a massage in town on Wednesday for my aching muscles.  Wednesday and Thursday are our days off to get groceries, errands and scout out the areas around Wenatchee. On the radio, we heard about a trail head opening  so we searched it out and took a short hike before heading back to the lake. In the evening, we met with friends to see a film, "On Any Sunday: The Next Chapter" at the Snowy Owl Theater.  Motorcycle film with great photography. The weekend was nearly fully booked for campers, especially since it was the Queen's Birthday 3 day Weekend in Canada

The hummingbirds are keeping me busy filling their feeder and
dive bombing each other.

Mountain lupines are in blossom everywhere.

We followed the trail towards Castle Rock on the West side of Wenatchee to get a panoramic view of the valley.  This
photo doesn't live up to the reality view. This is looking East towards Badger Mountain.

Looking South towards the Columbia River and Malaga.

We didn't make it to the very top of Castle Rock.  This was the base
and it became slippery going so we made the turn back at this point.

Don't know how high we were but the views were stunning.  Weather was
perfect for an afternoon venture.

Sonny is trying out bubbles left behind.  Today, we picked up what seemed
like 100 reminents of a water balloon fight.

A storm is brewing at the head of the lake.

There are 8 osprey nests within a mile of our campsite.  This is an
eagle soaring above the trees.

Yesterday, winds on the lake clocked over 25 mpg.  It looked
like the ocean beach. People didn't stay long on their beach
visits.

The campers in 100 couldn't take their boat out so they flew kites.  This
is a pirate ship in the wind.

Yesterday, Sonny went over to Port Orchard to check on the house
and to attend the US Open Orientation.  He is one of 5000
volunteers for the event in June.  He brought back my
kayak.  See the wind sock in the wind!

A rainy Sunday.  Campers were packed up and mostly out of here by
10 AM.  It was too wet to work so we hung out at the store drinking
coffee till the rain stopped.  We went to the Group Camp to rake and check for litter
after the wedding that took place at the amphitheater and picnic shelter yesterday.

Park staff are moving the big dumpsters back in place in
preparation for Memorial Day Weekend.  The tree is
blocking the bucket which is carrying a dumpster.

At the beach after the rain.
When the rain stopped, the lake was flat calm.  This gal and her dog
took a paddle around the island on the board.  The water is very cold
so she was brave to paddle without a life jacket.

Sun setting in the West though my phone camera doesn't
can't capture the pretty pinks.  Dirty Face is the large
peak at 6000' on the right.  It's a 9 mile hike with a
4000' elevation gain.
